Zumba Project Review

This assignment was helpful in learning to work with people without usually seeing them. Each of us were busy almost every day of the week so we were only really able to practice an hour before class each day. We would come up with ideas outside of class and either send them via a group message on Facebook or in person the days we practiced. It wasn’t really divided into any sections of who should look up what. We kind of just threw ideas around and played with them until we found things we liked. Each of us were cautious to keep it easy enough for the class to follow as well as for one of our group members who was injured during that time.

Researching dance moves and songs was difficult in my opinion. Finding a song that everyone agreed on proved to be a challenge because some were too fast or too difficult to choreograph and sometimes we were just stubborn and really didn’t like that particular song. For the dance moves we mainly used YouTube to try and find things we liked that fit the song. I quickly noticed in this process that most things I found were repeated between different dances. My group members also noticed most dances are so repetitive and simple that they became boring. This drove us to try and stay repetitive but not to the point of boredom. This did create some of a challenge but eventually we overcame that.

Our strengths were things like cooperation, not fighting over ideas and good attitude. Everyone was willing to try anything to see how we liked it, not one person had to be in control, we all contributed ideas and everyone stayed pretty positive until the very end. It provided a good environment to get it all worked out and finished. Our weaknesses were when one member wasn’t there or when we procrastinated thinking we had more time than we really did. If I could do it over again I would make sure we didn’t procrastinate as much and get it done a bit sooner so we had more time to work out bugs and memorize it before performing.

Performing in front of the class was nerve-wracking at first but once we got into the song it was pretty easy to just do what we rehearsed. Looking in the mirror it seemed like the class picked it up fairly well. There were some parts that changed a little too fast and we lost some people but overall I think they liked it. We tried to get into as much as possible so the class could let loose and have some fun but they were still a little stiff; possibly because they hadn’t learned it the way we got to. This was a really good experience overall.
